How can social media tools help you visualise information for yourself and others?

The question related to Badge 3 was how can tools on social media help people visualise information and I found this quite topical as there is an increase in the amount of information being released on a wide variety of topics.

Tools like YouTube allow “…trends and patterns to be more easily seen”, as there is increasingly more information being released everyday which can be hard for people to understand. (“What is Data Visualization and Why Is It Important? | Import.io”, 2020). Youtube helps display this information in a new way.

Tools such as Google Images help make research easy by putting all images related to your topic of choice in the one place, which saves the user scrolling through websites and blogs to find the perfect image.

All of these applications “…were not developed for learning purposes”, they were designed for recreational purposes (Liu, 2010) . I believe it is great that they have been developed so far that people are learning and interpreting information in many ways using Social Media tools like the ones I have mentioned above. It is also evident that platforms such as Youtube can be used for better visualisation in terms of education.

Summary

I really enjoyed this assignment, I found it informative as I learned how easy it can be to create a YouTube video that is beneficial and I can see the future of education being heavily reliant on Social Media tools such as Youtube and Google Images.

I always find that making a video on my progress and how I found the assignment helps some of my colleagues and I also find it beneficial hearing their feedback on my work as I feel it is necessary for me to progress in my work. This part of the badge heavily relates to this weeks topic as the feedback videos demonstrate how online tools not only help people visualise information but also help with people’s progress and learning.
