Critical Review of Learning
How can Social Media tools help us create and manage Information?
Information is collected and organized on a massive scale by the general public using social media websites for tagging, blogging, and photo sharing (College of Information Science and Technology, n.d.). Social Media tools can allow users to group digital objects and information in their own ‘personal collections’ (College of Information Science and Technology, n.d.) .
The three different exercises for Digital Badge 2 included, making a Google Map, setting up a ‘Pocket’ account and creating a ‘Pinterest’ page. All of these activities proved that online information management is very easy and useful.
Firstly, I did not think it was possible to make or edit a Google Map so this exercise opened my eyes to a new form of information organization. I found it easy at the start to follow the instructions to complete this task however when it came to uploading a URL image, the steps were quite confusing.
For the ‘Pocket’ exercise, I also did not know this website existed. I found it similar to Pinterest as it is a place where you can organise all of the things you find online and tag them according to what they are associated with.
I enjoy using Pinterest as you can save and group things youre interested in. Pinterest is also great for connecting to people with similar interests to you. This allows users to connect and ‘expand their social networks’ (Galbreath, 2011).
One thing I learned is that on most social media sights, it is possible to keep certain things private, for example on Google Maps I was able to choose who I wanted to see my maps. Not everything has to be public.(Galbreath, 2011).
I personally found all of these tasks very eye opening, more so than the tasks from the first digital badge, as I use Pinterest a lot for grouping my online information and personalising my data. I believe Social Media tools such as the ones on Pinteres, Pocket and Google Maps really help make life easier when it comes to online information management.

Summary
I believe getting feedback from my peers is very important in terms of the progression of my work. I have learned a lot since completing Digital Badge 1 and have approached this differently due to my feedback. I also like giving my feedback to others so that they can improve. I enjoyed doing this task and hope that I have completed every task correctly.
